The author, Clive S. Johnson, gave me a copy of the novel in exchange for my review.

There is an elevated quality to the way Clive S. Johnson writes. It’s not quite Joyce and not quite Tolkien but it is a love of language conveyed. Once the story started to flow the unique brilliance of the usage is revealed. One different from any other we might have encountered before. There are hints of Olde English with otherworldly undertones. While it took some time to enter the flow of the tale, once assimilated the language transports the reader.

[easyazon-link asin=”1490314865″ locale=”us”]Cold Angel Days (The Dica Series) (Volume 4)[/easyazon-link] is a character-driven fantasy novel. There are no baddies dogging our hero’s steps. The conflict is within themselves. The ultimate war of self-interest vs. the greater good. [easyazon-link asin=”1490314865″ locale=”us”]Cold Angel Days (The Dica Series) (Volume 4)[/easyazon-link] is not for everyone. It is a novel that requires focus in order to follow the story. A few years ago, I would not have enjoyed this book. I was a new mother who was looking for a read that I could put down and pick up again perhaps hours later without anything being lost. In [easyazon-link asin=”1490314865″ locale=”us”]Cold Angel Days (The Dica Series) (Volume 4)[/easyazon-link], I found myself reading back quite a lot. If you’re someone with a really good memory for detail it can be pulled off but I hesitate to suggest this novel for anyone who doesn’t really like to immerse themselves in a read.

There is a sense of something lost coming into the series with the fourth novel. Perhaps a knowledge that might have enhanced the reading experience. Despite this small sense of loss, [easyazon-link asin=”1490314865″ locale=”us”]Cold Angel Days (The Dica Series) (Volume 4)[/easyazon-link] is a novel that stands perfectly on its own. Could I have known more about the world? Could I have learned more about some of the characters? Sure. There is a great sense of history with the characters and a knowledge that in not reading prior works, I probably missed a lot about who they are. At the end of the day it doesn’t matter because [easyazon-link asin=”1490314865″ locale=”us”]Cold Angel Days (The Dica Series) (Volume 4)[/easyazon-link] is as much art as fiction.

I recommend this novel for readers who read to immerse themselves in new experiences.
