Brianna is the smallest sprite and has a dream of being a Sugarplum Fairy. Can a pixie help her find a shortcut to her dream?

[easyazon-link asin=”B00ANX0ZWW” locale=”us”]Brianna the Ballet Fairy (KiteReaders Fairy Series)[/easyazon-link] teaches the lesson of believing in oneself and finding the strength from within to achieve goals. Brianna tries to take shortcuts offered by a mischievous pixie only to discover that sometimes confidence and self-reliance are the best paths to a dream becoming a reality.

The illustrations are drawn beautifully but simply (the plums are very clearly plums – which isn’t always so evident just at a glance with picture books) and serves to highlight the theme of the story of a little sprite with big dreams. Children will identify with Brianna in her quest and, I think, easily translate the message to their own lives.

Caarina the Cooking Fairy by Julia Dweck (author) and Gemini (Illustrator)

Caarina is making a fabulous fairy feast but there’s a mischievous gremlin in her kitchen and things keep going wrong!  Will Caarina give up or will she find a way to beat the gremlin?

[easyazon-link asin=”B00AGZJ33Y” locale=”us”]Caarina the Cooking Fairy[/easyazon-link] is the second picture book reviewed by Rabid Readers Reviews.

[easyazon-link asin=”B00AGZJ33Y” locale=”us”]Caarina the Cooking Fairy[/easyazon-link] is a funny and sweet read. Beautifully drawn and cleverly rhymed, Caarina is enchanting and her spirit indomitable. The 10-year-old and I read the story together and enjoyed the buoyancy of Caarina’s spirit and the message that when things go bad giving up is not the answer. We find a way to overcome.

My daughter gave the impression of being adult and analytical about the book but I found her, not long after we finished reading, reading it over again. I pretended to believe that she was reading it over for a second analysis but know that the storyline and adorable pictures pulled her girly little heart back for a second look. Any child can find an example in their own life where they can use or have used Caarina’s can-do attitude. My daughter drew a parallel to her own activities and how defeating the “Mohawk” helped her move on to the Intermediate level in figure skating.

[easyazon-link asin=”B00AGZJ33Y” locale=”us”]Caarina the Cooking Fairy[/easyazon-link] is an enchanting read and would make an excellent gift for small children or, as we head into the holiday season, early education teachers.

Cat or Dog for President by Julia Dweck (Author) and Bill Bruning (Illustrator)

[easyazon-link asin=”B009YW652M” locale=”us”]Cat or Dog for President[/easyazon-link] is a picture book that puts the Presidential Race into relatable terms for children.

This book was sent free from the author with a request for review. Having never reviewed a picture book before, I wasn’t sure of how to proceed but, on reading the book, find that there’s a lot to talk about.

Starting with the illustrations, they were phenomenal. Colorful and busy, the child will see something new each time the book is read. I would suggest [easyazon-link asin=”B009YW652M” locale=”us”]Cat or Dog for President[/easyazon-link] for any Preschool reading circle. The well-drawn cat and dog will capture the attention of the children – and the imagination of those who have pets.

The storyline was extremely well done. Any adult reading the book will recognize a deeper meaning behind the story and within the two candidates. For a child reading the book, they’ll get an idea of an election from campaigning to vote. My favorite part of the book was the mudslinging cat. Mudslinging was within the character of a cat but also relatable to local election campaigns.

This picture book is simple and fun and has a message that I know I’d like to share with my newsfeed – we need to all work together to get ahead. Thank goodness cat and dog realized that before things got really ugly!

[easyazon-link asin=”B009YW652M” locale=”us”]Cat or Dog for President[/easyazon-link] is a wonderful book for children ages 0 until the child starts learning about the political process in school. The book is also a great addition to any school library collection.
