Beautifully drawn and cleverly rhymed, Caarina is enchanting and her spirit indomitable. The 10-year-old and I read the story together and enjoyed the buoyancy of Caarina’s spirit and the message that when things go bad giving up is not the answer. We find a way to overcome.
My daughter gave the impression of being adult and analytical about the book but I found her, not long after we finished reading, reading it over again. I pretended to believe that she was reading it over for a second analysis but know that the storyline and adorable pictures pulled her girly little heart back for a second look. Any child can find an example in their own life where they can use or have used Caarina’s can-do attitude. My daughter drew a parallel to her own activities and how defeating the “Mohawk” helped her move on to the Intermediate level in figure skating.
